From agrochemicals to biological inputs

Can Tecnomyl grow from a Paraguayan manufacturer into a regional agricultural industry platform?

The key is more than the number of products. We examine how manufacturing in Villeta, research and development, biological inputs, logistics in Ciudad del Este and expansion into Brazil and Bolivia could work together as one system for growth.

Tecnomyl makes crop protection products. Why is it now investing so much in biological inputs and logistics?

It is not about abandoning chemical products. The question is whether it can add research and development, biological products, logistics and exports to its industrial base, turning factory capacity into a regional platform.

Since 1991: from crop protection to an industrial business with regional reach

Tecnomyl was founded in 1991 and marked its 35th anniversary in 2026. As part of Grupo Sarabia, it built its business around herbicides, insecticides, fungicides and fertilizers, and is now expanding its range to include biological products and seeds.

The company describes its development from a venture focused on crop protection into an industrial business based in Villeta with a presence in Brazil and Bolivia. This issue reads those 35 years as the accumulation of capabilities: manufacturing, research and development, logistics and regional expansion.

The advantage starts with manufacturing capacity within Paraguay

Tecnomyl’s current corporate page reports a 20-hectare industrial site, approximately 50,000 m² of buildings and installed annual capacity of 69.6 million liters/kilograms. The breakdown includes 42.7 million liters of liquids, 18.2 million of flowables, 3.2 million kg of granules, 3.1 million liters of fertilizers and 2.4 million kg of micronized products.

IFC’s 2026 Environmental and Social Review Summary (ESRS) describes the same operation as having 40,000 m² and annual capacity of 81 million kilogram-liters. The differences may reflect the date or scope of the calculations, so we do not force them into a single figure. The central point is that Tecnomyl is more than a distributor: it imports raw materials and formulates products locally in Paraguay.

The difference between selling in Paraguay and manufacturing from Paraguay

Even when some raw materials come from abroad, formulating products, controlling quality and dispatching goods from within the country builds industrial capabilities. The next question is how far those capabilities can expand across the region.
